Saturday October 12th 2024
10am – 5pm
Calling former Youghal Carpets workers (both Youghal & Carrigtwoill) and their families to participate in a hand-casting day at Greywood Arts.
These plaster sculptures will become part of an art exhibition that speaks to the historical, social, cultural and artistic heritage of the industry that was Youghal Carpets in Spring 2025.
42 hand casts are required (representing the role of 42 workers that were needed to prepare the looms before the machine could weave a carpet).
The moulds will be taken using Alginate, a low toxic natural substance made from seaweed, which is skin safe.
Katie aims to capture the unique aspects of each individual hand. “My intention is to make a faithful and potent representation of the manual skill and labour that was part of the Youghal Carpet workforce.”
Please contact katienolanartist@gmail.com to book your slot or feel free to drop in on the day anytime between 10am and 5pm.
Location: Greywood Arts, Main Street, Killeagh P36 KN61
